“Greece does not seem to be in the countries that will be directly affected in terms of energy supply due to the crisis on the Ukrainian-Russian border,” government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou told SKAI 100.3.
He stated that there are ways to deal with the crisis depending on its intensity and duration.
Mr. Economou noted that our country has a dual status, on the one hand as a member of NATO and the EU and on the other hand has its own channels of communication in terms of bilateral contacts with the Russian side. However, he expressed the hope that logic would prevail.
Referring to the economy, he stressed that we must ensure that the upward course of the Greek economy will not be jeopardized. However, he assured that what the country can do, it will do.
He noted that the government is facing the problem with boosting revenue and targeted interventions, such as in energy.
Asked about the possibility of reducing VAT on some goods, he explained that it sounds pleasant but will not be effective at first because it is not certain that the consumer will see a difference in prices as companies have already absorbed several of the price increases and also this will be money that will be lacking from the support of the welfare state.
