In a meeting that the 15-member Committee will hold at 17:00 in Larissa, it will be decided whether they will continue their mobilizations, coordinated with the rest of Greece’s blocs following the government’s proposals – The final decision will be made on Thursday, February 15
The farmers will decide their next moves after yesterday’s meeting with the prime minister today, Wednesday. In a meeting that the 15-member Committee will hold at 17:00 in Larissa, it will be decided whether they will continue their mobilizations, coordinated with the rest of Greece’s blocs after the proposals presented by the government which include cheaper electricity for all farmers for the next 2+8 years as well as advance payment of the Special Consumption Tax on agricultural oil worth 40 million at the end of March.
The final decision will be made on Thursday, February 15, by all the blocks in the country, while their descent to Athens is still on the table.
However, according to the first reactions of the farmers and having taken out a pencil and paper to do the necessary actions, it seems that the measures do not satisfy them and they state that the fight must continue, strengthening the blocks even more to satisfy the maximum possible extent their requests. The government, for its part, made it clear that what it presented was the final package, leaving no room for new expectations.
“Not all of our demands have been met[…]We will make the decisions in our blocks. We believe that our struggle must continue, that the blockades should be strengthened even more in order to further satisfy to the maximum extent possible the demands for survival that the country’s agricultural movement has put forward all these days” said, among others, the member of the Panhellenic Blockade Committee, Rizos Maroudas.
“In a negotiation you always win something, but we have no room to lose. So, as you understand, all that if and as long as it exists, either as profits or as a withdrawal, the farmers themselves are the only competent ones to decide. What I have to say is that there was a constructive and largely meaningful dialogue[…]the answers will be given by the farmers themselves” said the vice-president of the Panserrai Agricultural Association, Yiannis Panagis.
Farmers in the blocks of Platykampos Larisa and Aegialia were informed about the aid measures announced after the meeting of the 15-member committee with the Prime Minister.
New general assemblies were decided in Platykambo, Trikala, Karditsa, where the proposal of the tractor descent to Athens is expected to be put on the carpet again next Monday.
