This morning, the former governor of Thessaly, Kostas Agorastos, is expected to appear before the Commission of Inquiry for “the investigation of the crime of Tempe” in order to testify.
According to larissanet.gr, Mr. Agorastos was recently prosecuted by the Larissa First Instance Prosecutor’s Office for breach of duty following a lawsuit filed, in August 2023, by a total of 19 parents and relatives of victims of the Tempe accident and it has to do with “consolidation” of the place where the tragedy took place a few days after the event.
As the relatives complain, this intervention altered the site of the accident, resulting in the loss of valuable evidence for the investigation of the crime, such as the identification of chemical substances that were finally found in small quantities in a sampling carried out at the site towards the end of March.
As soon as the prosecution became known, Mr. Agorastos stated that his impeachment is unfair and that he does not bear any responsibility for the accident, stressing that the role of the Region of Thessaly was to provide only supportive assistance.
