Although Brazil does not have an official date for this, February 17th was established as World Cat Day and is usually the day chosen to celebrate cats in the country.
Here, felines have led to a new craze, that of cat cafés, cafes where it is possible to interact with cats, which can also be adopted.
The space for meals and playing with animals, however, needs to be separate. This is because an Anvisa rule prohibits keeping animals in the same environment where food is sold, as a measure to prevent zoonoses.
The capital of São Paulo has at least five addresses of this type, find out what they are below.
Angry Cat
Asian-inspired, the cat café opened in December, in Liberdade. While tasting delicacies such as croissants, macarons and cookies, customers can interact with cats on site, which can also be adopted. To drink, there are coffees, frappes and teas. Entry costs R$10.

Gatcha
One of the pioneering cat cafés in the capital of São Paulo, it has a menu dedicated to matchá, the Japanese powdered green tea, used as a base for drinks and sweets, such as cookies, brigadeiros and teas. Kittens for adoption live there and receive visits, at a price of R$25 for half an hour. There are some rules, like not making noise.

Gateria
In addition to the coffee and food, the attraction is the cats, which are in a space with furniture designed for them and a retractable roof. To interact for 30 minutes with the felines, which can be adopted, you pay R$ 19.70 — tickets on sale on the Sympla website. The extensive menu includes a variety of drinks, savory snacks, sweets, snacks and quiches.

Cat Pingado
While tasting coffees, sweets and savory snacks, you can observe the cats that live in an area with furniture and an outdoor yard through a glass wall. The visit costs from R$12 to R$30 and the felines, from the SOS Gatinhos project, can be adopted. The house also hosts yoga classes with cats and has a coworking area.

Mi&Mo
The café, in a 1940s townhouse in Paraíso, is home to around ten kittens for adoption, from the NGO While There’s a Chance. The cats are in a courtyard with an open-air space and the public can interact with them — you pay R$15 for half an hour. To eat and drink, there are special coffee beans and delicacies such as grilled cheese on cat-shaped bread (R$ 15) and carrot cake with chocolate icing (R$ 10).
