The Greek doctors who work in Italy wish to offer their essential contribution, with their experience and special knowledge, in order to function as a scientific bridge between the two countries.

In an event held in Rome, Mr Association of Greek Doctors of Italy, Ameicarried out a first assessment and set new goals, one year after its establishment.

It counts almost four hundred members and wants to grow even more, reaching twelve hundred. Those who are estimated to be the Greek and Cypriot doctors, nurses and pharmacists who live and work in Italy.

The Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadisin his message, welcomed the event and stated that he looks forward to cooperation with the Greek doctors in the diaspora, as well as with the Italian Ministry of Health, to address common challenges and protect the health systems of our countries.

“This year, we have planned a specific series of actions: the creation of an interactive application, for dialogue with Greek and Italian patients. Also, after a meeting we had with the Italian Minister of Health, we requested that the Greek medical degrees be recognized much faster by the Italian state”, emphasized the president of Amei, Dimitris Varvaras.

The Association of Greek Doctors of Italy in April will take part in Annual Panhellenic Medical Conference of Athens , making special reference to the practices and structure of the Italian health system. In October, he will participate, in Thessaloniki, in the Aristotle Medical Forum while, at the same time, he is promoting a new, ambitious plan: that the Italian, distinguished medical graduates, can come to Kos and take the Hippocratic Oath in the Asclepius. A project to which the Italian Minister of Health, Horatio Scilazzi, responded with enthusiasm and there is an intention to extend it to graduates of other countries.

“Our whole journey started just one year ago, but we are determined to continue, energetically, in order to offer useful social and scientific work,” emphasized Amei’s secretary, ‘ABesarat.

The event, which took place in a central area of ​​Rome, was greeted by the venerable Metropolitan of Italy Polykarpos, the ambassador of our country to Italy, Eleni Sourani, the ambassador of Cyprus George Christofidis and the ambassador of Greece to the Holy See, Katia Georgiou.

From the Italian side, the vice-president of the Medical Association of the wider area of ​​Rome, Stefano De Lillo, confirmed his sincere will to support the whole initiative and by approving plans for the exchange of medical and nursing personnel between the two countries.

The president of the EOTAngela Gerekou, in her video message, said she is sure that the Greek doctors of Italy will honor and spread even more the Hippocratic tradition, which gives primary importance to the person and to holistic treatment. He also emphasized that EOT promotes wellness tourism in our country with increasing emphasis.

The professor of health policy Kyriakos Souliotis, finally, from the University of Peloponnese, referred to important similarities between the Greek and Italian health systems, the usefulness of the constant dialogue of state institutions with patient associations and associations, as well as the usefulness of cooperation programs between Greek universities and those abroad, in the field of medicine.
