The announcement of a 24-hour nationwide strike on February 28, 2024 and the sector’s participation in the strike mobilizations and rallies of the Athens Labor Center and the local Labor Centers throughout the country was decided by the General Council of the Federation of Banking Organizations of Greece (ΟΟΕ) at the meeting of February 21, 2024.

OTOE highlights the dominant problem of workers which is the sweeping wave of punctuality, which drastically reduces the purchasing power of wages and degrades their quality of life.

As stated in a relevant announcement, OTOE’s claims are as follows:

“As long as the sectoral Collective Labor Agreements (CBA) are not strengthened and collective rights are not fully restored, even the increases in the minimum wage are not enough and of course concern a limited part of the workers.

– The government should stop limiting itself to piecemeal measures to deal with accuracy.

– To take measures to control inflation.

– To control and crack down on bribery.

– Strengthen the control mechanisms and the Competition Commission.

– To effectively protect the purchasing power of low and middle incomes.

– To index the tax scales and all social benefits.

– Take substantial measures to cover housing needs and protect housing, especially for young couples.

– To drastically reduce VAT on basic goods and services.

– To break the cartels that distort healthy competition.

As far as the banking system is concerned, banks must play their institutional role, essentially supporting the real economy, society and workers, who have made a decisive contribution to the banking system overcoming its structural problems and definitively entering the new era, with strong profitability and sustainable growth dynamics for the coming years”.

OTOE calls on all Associations and workers in the sector to participate actively, unitedly and en masse, in the 24-hour strike on February 28, 2024, as well as in the corresponding gatherings in each city.

The gathering will take place in Klathmonos Square at 11:00 in the morning.
