The teachers complain that the building is collapsing
Under collapse it is the building of a special school in Galanovrisi, Larisa, as teachers complain, which poses risks for employees and students.
According to ekdosi.gr, this fact is confirmed by a recent incident when a large iron window fell on the head of the school, who fortunately was not injured by sheer luck.
The window fell on the headmaster when he tried to close it and luckily the children were in school by then.
As the teachers describe, the hinges that held the case had rusted, causing the entire structure to fall.
It is noted that the school employees had sent a document to the municipal authority on 05-28-21 in which they mentioned the needs of the building infrastructure of the special school.
The teacher’s document
“As you well know, the Special School serves the entire district of Elassona, which is characterized by a large and mountainous area with remote villages. Its support at every level of its operation is imperative for the benefit of disabled children and their families. The Special School is a building from the 1950s, and housed the Primary and Kindergarten of Galanovrysi. When the School was closed and moved to Stefanovunou Primary School, the building remained inactive and its premises were used by the Cultural Association of Aradosivion.
In 2005, with the establishment and opening of the Special School that would serve the needs of the entire District, it was decided to house the structure in this building, since it was in very good condition and close to Elassona.
Interventions were made with internal room partitions, configuration of space for kitchen-dining room and space for toilets. Later, around 2008-2009, the basement was converted into a workshop space.
Already since then and in consultation with the then Municipal Authority, actions were taken to expand the building which remained inactive when we entered the decade of crisis…
Today, 16 years after the reopening of the building, at a time when we are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the area was seriously affected by the earthquake of March 3, 2021, where a previously unknown fault was recorded, we point out significant deficiencies but also significant damages .
In particular we mention:
Replacement – restoration and improvement
The windows are old and iron with plain glass which is dangerous for any school environment let alone a special context. We remind you of our documents from (a.p. 20, 13/4/2021 & a.p. 27, 23/4/2019) about the necessity of changing them.
The frames do not touch to provide insulation, resulting in significant heating losses and temperature differences in different rooms.
The mosaic-coated floor in the corridor area, used as a common break and event area, has suffered subsidence and cracks.
Due to their poor condition, the wooden floors in the halls are also covered with carpets that have also worn out, which is a significant burden of germs.
The spaces where the operations have been carried out are limited and small, some unsuitable for their use, such as the one in the gym.
Control of the burner and modernization of the heating system are deemed necessary
Restoration of damage to the exterior coating and colors
Designing the front yard area and the playground is considered imperative. The stone archway needs support and the fencing is not adequate.
The age of the swing and the slide is dangerously burdened and does not meet the necessary safety standards, a study that you have started after and from our (ap. 3 3/2/2021) document”.
