Its neutral taste and creamy texture make it enjoyable no matter how you combine it.
Yogurt, and especially Greek yogurt, is a great snack, and it has some very good reasons for that.
The problem is, a bowl of yogurt can start to look a little… boring. And classic combos can feel just as boring, especially if you stick to the same plugins over and over again. The good news; There are actually quite a few ways to turn this favorite material into something spectacular.
Little tricks like creating savory mixes, using imaginative ingredients and rethinking the way you eat the creamy treat can whet your appetite.
Add unexpected ingredients
You can satisfy your need for food with something different: a combination of legumes and vegetables such as chickpeas, yellow peas, soybeans, peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, potatoes, etc. Add to your mixture some type of meat or eggs, spices and herbs of your choice and you have a delicious dish!
It’s the perfect meal, and alternatively, instead of eating it plain, create a dip in which to dip breadcrumbs or crackers. If you don’t have any of these at home, you can air fry a tortilla for a few minutes and turn it into chips!
Fortify yogurt with fruit
Fruit and yogurt is another popular combination, but slicing a banana or adding berries every day can get boring. So try some unexpected options. Tropical fruits like pineapple and mango go wonderfully with the salty, creamy taste of yogurt. They also go great with a sprinkling of Tajin – a mix of lime, chilli and sea salt. Frozen or canned options also work well and can be super convenient when some fruit isn’t in season. Their texture might just be a little different. Also, instead of fresh fruit, it would be perfect if you baked it. Baked apple with cinnamon for example, or baked peach, goes amazingly well with yogurt.
Yogurt with fruit will take on another life if you add a little orange blossom the rose water. In addition to enhancing the taste of your snack, orange blossom is beneficial for bowel function.
It doesn’t matter if you prefer the sweet or the salty version of yogurt. The salt must go in the bowl with the yogurt! Add a pinch of salt to your yogurt mix, even if you combine it with fruit and grains. You will see how this combination will surprise you!
Make your yogurt topper
If you’re sick of yogurt, consider reversing your approach completely. Instead of looking for things to mix into Greek yogurt, think of it as something that can be added to another food. Spread it on toast, bread, bruschetta or crepes for a snack on the go, and add thin slices of cucumber, tomato, avocado, seeds and spices for a savory approach. Or, for a sweet version, add yogurt and peanut butter or almond butter, cinnamon, honey or maple syrup, and fresh fruit.
Dare a DIY ice cream
Social Media inspires us once again and this DIY ice cream will surely catch your eye somewhere. Stir a tablespoon or two of peanut butter into the yogurt, top with melted chocolate and whole or chopped peanuts (or other nuts) and chill in the freezer. After a while, a delicious chocolate shell will form, similar to that of an ice cream and it’s perfect!
You can also make variations, such as replacing the peanut butter with tahini or honey and adding jam before the chocolate. You could even enrich it with the ingredients you like to make it even more interesting.
