The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, returned to the issue of the murder of a 7-year-old child in Kypseli, after morning statements in the First Program on State Responsibilities, as the child was not sought, while his sister’s story was known.
Speaking in the afternoon on ERT’s Studio 4 show, Ms. Michailidou said: “The purpose – in none of the cases – is to go on a witch hunt or a hunt for responsibility. What do we know at the moment? We know that a child was killed and the State, all of us as a State, whether it is the previous municipal authority, or the prosecutor’s office, or central to the Ministry of Interior, say or Labor, did not manage to save this child in time.
I refer in good faith to the responsibilities of all those who participate in the puzzle, in the part of child protection. What do we know? We know a child is missing. We know that one child was lost, the other child was saved. And what we all need to do together is to see how we work better, how each of us does our job even better, so that no child is lost in the future.
What I can say with absolute sincerity is that now with the new municipal authority, with Mr. Bakoyannis, who is the mayor of Athens, and with the deputy mayor in charge of social issues, there is a very close cooperation, which (ministry and local government) especially in the largest city of our country, Athens, we look very systematically at the issues of vulnerability, the issues of homelessness.
We have a very close cooperation in the part of pre-school education and abuse, if you will, in the kindergartens, whether it is a part of neglect or not. So I’m not just optimistic, I’m sure we have changed the page in this part. “
