According to information, the families of the victims decided not to have political party delegations attend the ceremony
A memorial service will be held today at 12 noon, by the families of the victims at the site of the railway tragedy in Tempi.
As onlarissa.gr writes, the families of the victims decided not to have political party delegations attend the ceremony, while at a distance from the place of the ceremony, there will be a specially designated area for the representatives of the press.
The violent collision, the derailment and the ignition of the trains caused the death of 57 people, including the two train drivers. At least 85 were injured. This is the deadliest railway accident recorded in Greece.
The moment of the conflict that “plunged” the country into mourning, recorded by a security camera:
At the same time two gatherings will be held in Larissa one from the Labor Center of Larisa in the Central Square and the other from the Prefectural Department of ADEDY Larisa in the Post Office Square.
At 10.30, in the Central Square, the Labor Center of Larisa has issued a call for participation in the strike. With the slogan “either their profits or our lives”, the president of the EKL, Yiannis Skokas, emphasized that the “crime of the Tempes must not be forgotten”, while upon completion of the gathering in the square, a march will follow to the square of the OSE where a monument will be unveiled in memory of the victims of Tempe.
Half an hour later, specifically at 11 in the morning, in the Post Office square there will be a gathering by the Executive Secretariat of the NT. A.D.E.D.Y. n. of Larissa, with the president, Michalis Tziatzias, calling for participation in the 24-hour public sector strike.
At the same time, the case file is expected to be forwarded to the members of the Parliament’s investigative committee, which completed its work a few days ago.
SYRIZA’s rapporteur on the committee Vassilis Kokkalis, requested the access of the members of the examination committees in the case file of the appellant-investigator Larisa, and “the correlation of the case file, which was sent from the previous week by the appellant-investigator, the access, that is, of all the members of the examination committee to the case file of Tempi, and the extension, at least for one week, in the deposition of the findings (of the parties)”.
Asked about this, Mr. Kokkalis said that “the case file left Larissa on Friday (23/02/2024)”.
The KKE raised the question of restarting the committee’s work, but this scenario seems procedurally very difficult. However, if important new data emerges from the judicial investigation, then it is not excluded that the opposition parties will make demands to call new and crucial witnesses.
It is noted that the inquiry committee decided that on March 8, the parties should submit their findings and that these will be discussed on March 11.
