The school trip to the Italian capital turned into a nightmare for students of the 2nd Lyceum of Heraklion
The students of the 1st grade of the 2nd General Lyceum of Heraklion had a very unpleasant experience in Rome last Monday night as they were victims of theft.
The father of one of the students who are in Italy, said that the break-in happened at night, when the 80 children with their five accompanying teachers were in a restaurant in Rome to eat.
On their way back they saw the buses broken into and their bags to be missingtogether with the money, their personal belongings that they had inside, while their identities also disappeared, which a professor had collected and had them all together in his own bag, which also “made wings”!
“In cooperation with our Embassy in Italy, the Ministry of Education should fully cover the expenses needed for the return of the children to Heraklion, since they are not responsible for what happened”, the ELME executive tells neakriti.gr Heraklion Areti Spahi, who also had the same information about what happened on Monday night during the children’s excursion.
“After all, these times are very bad and the families of these children sent them on the trip with a lot of deprivation. There should be an immediate response from the Ministry of Education after the very unpleasant incident”, according to Ms. Spahi.
“The children arrived in Rome on Sunday night. On Monday night they went out to eat. And when they returned to the buses they found they had been opened. And the children’s bags had been stolen, which contained personal items, clothes, money, and unfortunately a teacher’s bag was also stolen, which contained the children’s police IDs. The teacher had collected them so that the children would not lose them. And that bag disappeared too. The Police was immediately notified. He went to where the buses were. She took her own actions. The teachers also went to the department and filed a lawsuit, as my son informed me,” the father revealed to neakriti.gr.
“We as parents we have no update about what happens from here on. The children leave Rome tomorrow (so today) to return by ferry. I wanted an update from the school about what happened and what will happen from now on. I do not blame any teacher who was with our children. They are humans. And one could not imagine that some would go to break into the buses. It was obviously done on purpose. They had heard that some busloads of students from another country had come and they went and did what they did. And of course we are talking about about 80 bags. So, we can understand that someone went in a van and loaded the children’s bags”!
neakriti.gr contacted the director of Secondary Education last night. As he assured, “with the help of the Greek Consulate in Italy, a solution was found for the return of the children without any issue regarding the loss of their identities”.
To our question if financial coverage was needed for the children’s expenses from the side of the Greek Consulate, he replied that he had no information about the existence of a financial problem for the return of the children. However, he will request full information on everything once the group returns to Heraklion.
