With field research at the Reception and Identification Center of Lesbos in Kara Tepe, Mytilene, to record the best practices for the identification and management of unaccompanied minors and vulnerable groups, the relevant two-day event held by the Center for Security Studies (KE.ME) was completed .A.) in collaboration with the Border Protection Division of the Hellenic Police Headquarters.
During it, officers of the Greek Police had the opportunity to be informed by academics, researchers and experts about the best practices for managing unaccompanied minors and other vulnerable groups. The goal is the creation of educational tools focused on the special conditions of KYT, by utilizing innovative technological solutions, such as for example the use of simulators. It should be noted that within the framework of the project, 12 training scenarios with vulnerability detection simulators have been prepared, to improve the practices used, identify problems and manage them effectively.
Already, 30 police officers have been trained who will subsequently train a further 330 frontline police officers, ensuring early identification, management and assistance to vulnerable groups. Also, a training manual is going to be published that will be based on modern scientific approaches to the management of vulnerable groups and will utilize the results recorded in the field surveys.
The two-day event was attended by the Head of the Aliens and Border Protection Branch of the Hellenic Police Headquarters, Brigadier General Ioannis Stavrakakis, the Deputy Director of the KE.ME.A Nikos Gerasimidis and the State MP of the Greek Islands Giorgos Stamatis.
The action is financed by the European Economic Area, and is implemented by the Hellenic Police with a partner K.ME.A. it is part of the training programs to support the preventive and social work of the Hellenic Police.
