“Final End” in the unsightly and marginally compliant with health protocols festive bazaars hosted in The regional governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, reportedly wants to set up a field of Areos.

“In addition to the aesthetic deterioration, for more than a decade the largest green lung of the center of Athens had become a den of street trading, as every Christmas and Eastera large part of it was covered for many days by peddlers’ stalls, under the pretext of a festive bazaar. Indicative of the anarchic situation that had been established in recent years, is the fact that the “festive bazaar” this year at Christmas lasted 53 days, effectively violating the character of the open public space”, reports the Region of Attica.

In a related announcement, he expresses “serious questions” that arise regarding the attitude of the previous administrations of the Region “letting the premises for a meager rent to hawkers”, stating that the daily rent per stall from 700 euros in 2013 to 100 in 2023“without there being a clear answer neither for the rationale of the decision, nor for which business interests benefited from it”.

The current administration of the Attica Region also points out that issues also arise in terms of safety conditions, “with the rough wiring, the dozens of gas bottles, the lack of diodes in the event of an accident, the insufficient maintenance and quality control of the products available to consumers” . In addition hundreds are the protests of the residents of the area about the illegal parking, noise pollution and the destruction of the green spaces during the bazaars.

“The Region of Attica is not going to allow the transformation of Areos Field into an open-air shopping mall, health violations and a source of nuisance for the residents. Our parks will remain recreational areas, open and accessible to citizens, as befits a European country” said colleagues of Nikos Hardalia, pointing out that the images of chaos of previous years are now a thing of the past.
