The region of Thessaly is an area where the agricultural land has the potential to produce quality agricultural products, while some of them can be the point of reference for the region, as they can provide even greater added value, contribute to the development and promotion of the primary production.

For example, the apple of Agia, the chickpeas of Farsala, the chestnuts of Pelion, the chestnuts of Melivoia, etc., are widely known for their quality, and are an important dietary choice for consumers. In the direction of highlighting and especially the certification of several agricultural products of the Thessaly region, which will be able to significantly help the primary sector, initiatives are being taken, with the support of the Region of Thessaly, with the aim of certifying (PDO) 13 products from the wider region .

According to the governor of Thessaly, Dimitris Kouretas, who presented the support structure of the Thessaly Region, the goal of the initiative to help certify products concerns the development and promotion of primary production.

Mr. Kouretas emphasized that there is a belief and a need from the Region of Thessaly, to develop the added value of the agricultural products of the region, as these agricultural products bring a very large income for the producers of Thessaly.

The product files approved for certification concern: Milo Agias PGI, Amorgos Farsala PGI chickpeas, Chestnuts of Pelion PDO, Melivoia chestnuts / Kastano Melivias PDO, Ampelakia chestnuts / Kastano Ampelakion PDO, the Karitsas PDO chestnut, the Tempon almond PDO, the Platykampou PDO garlic, the Aktinidio Delta Pineiou PDO kiwifruit, the Achladi Kristalli Tyrnavou PDO, the Voskotyri Livadiou PDO, but also the Wine products, Tyrnavos PGI, Agrafa Foothills PDO.

The support service of the Region of Thessaly to the beneficiaries of the files as well as to the cooperating agricultural advisors, aims to support and transfer know-how, in terms of the content and drafting of the files, to the beneficiaries or to the authorized agricultural advisors. Regarding the schedule, within the next few months, it is expected that the product dossiers will be submitted, so that they will take the road to prominence and will enrich the agro-food potential of Thessaly.
