The Crimes Against Life and Personal Freedom section of the Prosecution of Crimes Against Life and Property sub-directorate of the Attica Security Directorate, proceeded in the investigation of the murder of a 35-year-old man from Afghanistan and the attempted murder of foreignerswhich had taken place after a clash between groups of people on the evening of March 8, 2024, outside a shop in the area of ​​Agios Panteleimon.

For the case, following an arrest warrant, a gang member was arrested, who is accused of being the natural perpetrator, while the case file also includes 12 people, who are accused of complicity in homicide (committed and attempted), participation in the fight as well as violation of the Arms Act.

The chronicle of the murderous encounter

The deadly fight took place on the evening of March 8, outside a cafe located at the junction of Michail Voda and Epirou streets, between two groups of seven and six people respectively.

During the fight, the arrested, a member of the group of seven, fired at the other group without causing injury.

Then, while the fight was still in progress, he shot again and seriously wounded the 35-year-old victim, who was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

From the investigation carried out at the site, three 9mm caliber firearm casings, an iron crowbar, a collapsible metal bar, an iron rod, an iron pole, two wooden poles, a knife, a knife file, a knife, two swords, an iron pole, as well as two wooden poles.

An investigation followed in the context of which information and data, laboratory findings and digital evidence from the crime scene were evaluated and utilized, resulting in the identification of all those involved as well as the verification of the motive for the fight.

The material collected was submitted to the Athens District Attorney’s Office and subsequently, the competent investigative department issued an arrest warrant against the natural perpetrator, who was located yesterday afternoon in the center of Athens and arrested.

In fact, two members of the gang in which the arrested man participated are accused of being members of one of the criminal organizations that were recently dismantled by the Athens Security Directorate and were active in drug trafficking

It is noted that all the defendants have been employed in the past, for a multitude of criminal offences.

The arrested person was taken to the competent prosecutor.
