The latest event that brought him to court took place the previous 24 hours, when in a drunken state, as reported, he hit his wife and took her and the minor children (10, 9 and 5 years old) out of the makeshift accommodation where they live, in western Thessaloniki.

The Autonomous Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki found him guilty of a series of acts, imposing a prison sentence of 4 years and 4 months, which he did not suspend.

Because of his continued abusive behavior, the court ruled that he should serve the sentence, as did not grant suspensory effect to the appeal.

The defendant, a foreigner, admitted his actions and attributed them to his drunkenness.

“I only took the kids out for 20 minutes. I was nervous and I had been drinking,” he apologized, among other things.
