The mayor of the island complained to SKAI about the major problem that exists in the connection between the island and Athens and Thessaloniki, as the only connection is from Volos in the winter months
Cut off from Athens throughout the winter season it is the island of Skopelos as the routes to and from Mantoudi stop after the end of the summer, such as complained to SKAI and in the show “Mismatches” the mayor of Skopelos, Stamatis Perissis as a result of which the inhabitants are cut off from the capital.
In particular, the line from Mantoudi is not viable in winter. Despite the fact that it should be labeled barren in the winter months and auctioned as it usually is, this has not happened with this particular line. At the moment, itineraries have only been announced for the months of July – August, as he said, although he clarified that there may be earlier itineraries as well. However, the fact that Easter is approaching and the only connection is from Volos, makes the problem bigger, the mayor pointed out.
According to him, the residents need 3 days to go to the island from Volos. Furthermore, there is no connection from St. Constantine either this year, because according to Mr. Perissis, the residents of the area complained that the speedboat raises too big a wave.
Mr. Perissis also pointed out the serious problem that exists in connection with Thessaloniki. It is a subsidized line which has been operating for the last 2-3 years. This year, however, its operation has not yet been announced and he underlined that last year it transported more than 70,000 tourists to the Sporades.
