The Athens Bar Association decided the conducting a referendum on the new Judicial Charter of Attica, while at the same time he decided to abstain from political affairs on 22.4.2024 and on the day of hearing bodies in the Parliament.
In more detail, the Board of Directors of the Athens Bar Association, during its last meeting, protesting the establishment of at least five regional Courts of First Instance in Attica and their opening from 16.9.2024, decided, according to its announcement, to hold a referendum, so that its 24,300 members to decide on the new Judicial Charter.
The referendum will raise the question of whether the lawyers of Athens accept the creation of regional Courts of First Instance, in accordance with the Government’s legislative initiative. The referendum will be held by secret ballot from next Monday 22.4.2024 until M. Monday 29.4.2024, when the result will be announced.
As stated in the announcement, “a similar referendum was held in the DSA in June 2018, reacting to the legislative initiative of the then SYRIZA government under the ministry of Stavros Kontonis on the trisection of the Court of First Instance of Athens”.
