For the use of Artificial Intelligence in dealing with it marine pollution the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Konstantinos, spoke Kyranakis in the “Our Ocean Conference 2024“, which takes place in Athens.

In particular he pointed out that “it is very important to emphasize the importance of Earth observation for the protection of the oceans. And that is why the Greek government is committed to it microsatellite manufacturing which will help monitor the world’s oceans in a much better way.”

As Mr. Kyranakis characteristically said “now we have good technology, innovative technology that can help us track this guy pollution in a much better way.”

As the deputy minister explained “through a application which, again, via satellite imagery, it will allow citizens and businesses to track who has what, on every coast and therefore to impose common rules that will protect it environment and will hold accountable those who harm our environment and coastline. These are three very specific commitments that I would like to announce today. And I’m sure we can continue the conversation later because I understand that we are totally.”

He even underlined that “Greece will commit in the next three years to the creation of at least 15 microsatellites that will also contribute to this goal. The second commitment from our side concerns shipping. Greece’s access to the world’s oceans is mainly through a very large privately owned fleet, a large shipping industry.

Greece has the second largest fleet in the world and it is our duty to digitize the entire process of this industry in order to optimize the routes, in order to optimize the processes, in order to help this whole industry to be as ecological as possible. So this is the second commitment. And I’m also very happy to report that in a month or two from now, we will launch an application to also protect our coasts and use every beach here in Greece.”
