He denies the charges
The threshold of the interrogator the 45-year-old accused of murdering his 65-year-old German friend in his house in Ferma Ierapetra is expected to pass.
The 45-year-old has already exercised criminal prosecution for manslaughter and he will apologize today after the deadline he requested and received.
He categorically denies that he was with the 65-year-old at the time he died, however the authorities have in their hands video material from a closed circuit television of a neighboring house.
The 65-year-old German was a cancer patient at a very advanced stage and had decided to stay permanently in Crete and specifically in the Ferma area of Ierapetra.
On April 7, the 65-year-old was found dead in his home, with the first autopsy showing that he had fallen and hit himself, causing him to take his last breath. Initially his death was classified as sudden death given the advanced state of his illness and as a result his burial was brought forward.
However, a piece of information that came later to the police “opened” the case file again.
As the authorities were informed, at the time of his death he was not alone at his home.
New investigations immediately began with the police looking for and finding audio-visual material from closed security cameras in his neighborhood.
The footage from the cameras confirmed the latest information that reached their ears. As it turned out, half an hour after the woman who was looking after him left, a friendly face of the 65-year-old arrived at his house, carefully covering his features.
The arrest of the 45-year-old
The new depositions immediately began with the police calling all the 65-year-old’s friends, who were no more than six people.
During the investigation, it was found that a 45-year-old matched the man who went to the cancer patient’s house on the fateful day.
The police brought him in and the previous Monday they proceeded to arrest him. So far the 45-year-old denies that he was with the 65-year-old at the time he died.
However, the prevailing scenario considered by the authorities is that there was an intense conflict between the two men, with the perpetrator pushing the 65-year-old who, due to his health condition, fell and hit his head, resulting in his death.
