“I am especially happy because it reminds me of your presence and your name, years ago, when I was a professor in education and your father was my student”, said His Beatitude addressing the Minister of Education
Formal meeting with the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports, Kyriakos Pierrakakishad this morning o Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Mr. Ieronymos.
Mr. Pierrakakis welcomed the Archbishop to the ministry stressing that “It is a special pleasure and honor that you are here. As you know, the ministry’s relationship with the Church is historical, it has a deep symbolism, it goes back to the very foundation of the Greek state. Of course, as you have said too many times, we aim at the same thing, State and Church, for the good of the Greek people. And that is precisely why cooperation between us is necessary, always with respect for the distinct roles of State and Church, but always, however, in a spirit of solidarity. And in this sense, Your Beatitude, and to close this short welcome, since we are approaching Holy Week, I think there is no better wish than these two words, which are already beginning to be heard throughout the country: Happy Resurrection”.
From the side of Archbishop he expressed his joy at the meeting and thanked him for the opportunity to exchange greetings.
“It is true that the road is difficult, there are many problems, from various areas and we are often obliged to face them. That’s why we need meetings from time to time. I, on the other hand, am especially happy because it reminds me of your presence and your name, years ago, when I was a professor in education and your father was my student. So, I also have these things to remember” the Archbishop noted and wished “good strength to the people first of all, to all those who work for peace and to deal with the various problems – and even more that we are here together, cooperation, because the cooperation is the best means, the best medicine to deal with the problems that exist every time”. Concluding his speech, the Archbishop wished everyone “strength, health and to spend a peaceful, beautiful Easter with our people, our families, our whole country”.
The Archbishop was accompanied by the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, Archimandrite Ioannis Karamouzis, the Director of the I.P.E., Archimandrite Theologos Alexandrakis, and Deacon Dimitrios Fokianos.
