ELAS is currently investigating the traffic accident that occurred last night on Piraeus Street, where a 26-year-old car driver ran over and injured two women, 53 and 33 years old, mother and daughter respectively, and the three children of the 33-year-old woman, two boys 10 and 5 years old and an 8 year old girl.

According to reports the 26-year-old driver claimed in his statement that the individuals suddenly appeared in front of himwhile the results of the blood tests to which he was submitted in order to establish whether he was under the influence of alcohol or other substances are also awaited.

At the same time, the Piraeus Traffic Police, which has undertaken the preliminary investigation of the case, is taking statements from other witnesses in order to establish the circumstances of the accident.

It is noted that the driver of the vehicle was arrested and is expected to be brought before the Prosecutor of Piraeus within the day.

Regarding the condition of the injured, according to the Ministry of Health, the 5-year-old boy was initially taken to the Tzanio hospital where he was intubated and then taken to the Children’s Ag. Sophia. He is hospitalized in ICU in critical condition. His siblings, a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl were taken by ambulance to the Children’s Ag. Sofia where their minor injuries were found. They are being treated in a surgical clinic and are out of danger.

The 53-year-old and the 33-year-old are hospitalized out of danger at the Erythros hospital with knee and tibia fractures respectively.
