In the presence of a large number of believers, the Epitaph Service was held in the Cathedral of Athens, presided over by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos and concelebrated by the bishops Androusis Constantiou and Tanagra Apostolos.

It was attended, among others, by representatives of the Parliament, the Armed Forces, the Security Forces, the Local Government and the Red Cross.

Afterwards, accompanied by a prayer, the Epitaph was carried to the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma Square, where a short prayer was held.

“Christ’s death was an unjust death. It was the result of human and demonic hatred. But Christ responded to this hatred with His sacrifice and His love”, emphasized the Primate of the Hellenic Church from Syntagma Square.

In addition, in another part of his speech, the Archbishop pointed out that “We have been taught from young children that the path of love and sacrifice is much more difficult. But in reality the path of evil is more difficult, because whoever does evil spends his life in organizing the destruction of others.”

Finally, he emphatically stated that “In the end love will conquer, even death, that’s why we don’t despair. We hope and have courage as a nation, but more so as Christians and as a Church. Tonight we all accompany our Lord, who suffered for us, to His earthly grave. In the grave that becomes a source of Resurrection and life for all of us”.
