The Municipality of Athens is on the side of the homeless and citizens in need this Easter as well
O Municipality of Athens supports vulnerable households and our homeless fellow citizens, organizing an Easter table, with “warm” smiles, love and a spirit of giving.
The open Love Meal was held at noon in the facilities of the Roof Indoor Gym, which was surrounded by music and good mood that brought us all closer.
THE Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, who attended the celebratory lunch at the Roof stated: “Athens is showing its solidarity. Not only on holidays but every day, we stand by each other. No one alone on the street, in poverty and in inappropriate living conditions. I wish you a happy and healthy birthday! Happy Easter to all!”
It is noted that the Easter meal was organized with the support of the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA), which provided the space, as well as with the assistance of the Cleaning and Recycling Department of the Municipality, which provided the buses for the transport of the beneficiaries.
Meals in structures and on the road
The actions are ongoing during all the festive days as the Municipality of Athens through KYADA distributed 1300 full meals on Easter day alone which included stew and beef as well as traditional sweets. The meals are distributed to all the hospitality structures supported by our Municipality, but also to people who are on the street.
Also, during Holy Week, Easter gifts and candles were distributed to the children of the beneficiary families, which were carefully wrapped and offered by the employees and volunteers of KYADA to our little friends, in order not to no child should be deprived of his Easter gift and candle.
THE President of KYADA, Ioanna (Zini) Gennimatasaid: “I am very honored to represent an organization with a strong social impact
which responsibly aims to alleviate inequalities, social integration and equal access of citizens to the goods of the city. The Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens is at the center of this effort. Happy Easter to everyone”.
Enhanced food packages – Gifts for our guests in the Structures
At the same time, the food packages distributed by Citizens’ Mutual Aid Hub and the Social Grocery Storewere enriched during this period with Easter products and with products of daily needs in order to cover the needs of vulnerable households for the Easter days.
