At least 6 incidents of firecracker injuries occurred on Easter night in our country, while in three cases amputations also occurred.

A 14-year-old boy is being treated at the Chania hospital who, last night, threw a firecracker, which exploded in his right hand, as a result of which he injured and amputated his fingers.

Similar incidents – with adult victims – occurred in Kalyvia and Peristeri.

Another firecracker amputation occurred in Fournos, where a 35-year-old man was taken to Ikaria for first aid as he lost his finger

It is recalled that on Holy Saturday another child from Thymaina was injured in the hand by a firecracker and was taken to the Ikaria hospital.

According to information, of the six incidents, three had to be transported by EKAB ambulance to hospitals on duty.

The use of firecrackers, sparklers and improvised pyrotechnics in Easter celebrations despite calls from the authorities to avoid them, incurs heavy costs every year.

According to police, more than 180,000 flares and firecrackers of all types have been seized across the country since mid-April and 102 people have been arrested.

For example, three people were arrested yesterday for violations of the legislation on flares and fireworks in Arcadia and Corinthia and, among other things, more than 1,450 firecrackers were confiscated.

In Rethymno, a person was arrested, in whose business around 52,800 firecrackers were found and confiscated.
