Within the May they begin itineraries of young people electric buses of the Urban Transport Organization Thessaloniki (OASTH), after the successful tests on six of the total of 110 electric buses.

Their “premiere” is scheduled to take place on lines 21 (on the route Evosmos – Aristotelous) and 29 (on the Polichni – Aristotelous route).

The electric buses are 12 meters long and have a capacity of 75 passengers. They charge in about three hours. They have an air conditioning and ventilation system, as well as tilting windows. They have a ramp for the access of Persons with Disabilities in the middle door and a special position for a wheelchair. They are ecological and zero emissions. Also, it’s quiet._

During the tests, each of the six buses was loaded with sandbags weighing 2.5 tonnes, which corresponds to a half-full vehicle.

The tests were completed once each of the six buses had driven 5,000 kilometers.

As it turned out, the buses not only meet the specifications, but have more than twice the energy autonomy than required. Thus, while based on the competition they should be able to make journeys of at least 180 kilometers on a single charge, in practice the buses easily travel more than 300 kilometers, according to today’s OASTH announcement.

These days, the electric buses are being received from the Greek State, and in particular the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, which held the tender for their supply, and they will be granted for use by OASTH.

“In the next few days we will receive all 110 buses and in May we will start running them. In fact, the first routes were planned to cover Evosmos and Polichni” said the president and managing director of OASTH, Kostas Taggiris, while the Director of Development of the Organization, Christos Hatzigeorgiou, pointed out that “from the tests carried out it turned out that the buses have more than twice energy autonomy than required. Therefore, they can be routed to any length of the OASTH line”.
