As stated in an announcement by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Tachiaos will inspect “the interventions made by the concessionaire, Aegean Motorway S.A.”, in electricity supply, supervision, automatic control, ventilation and fire detection systems and fire safety, which make the tunnel safer for passing drivers”.

Until the completion of the interventions, the traffic of I.X. will be conducted through the two-way branch, with one lane, in each direction and Emergency Lane. For vehicles over 3.5 tons (e.g. trucks, buses) traffic will continue to take place via the Katerini Ring Road, the announcement emphasizes.

The tunnel remained universally closed as of April 8, 2024.

Afterwards, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport will go to the Axios Bridge, where he will perform an autopsy of its restoration work.
