“Consider the delivery of the main line of the Thessaloniki metro as a given in November 2024,” pointed out the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Nikos Tachiaos, and recalling that eight months later its extension to Kalamaria will follow, he noted that “now, we are essentially talking for the next generation of the metro in the city, i.e. for its extensions”.

Thus, as he added, “on Monday 20/5, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, we will announce the results of the Thessaloniki metro development study, so from there you will see what the planned extensions of the city’s metro are.” He himself, without giving the “stigma”, did not rule out the possibility of giving priority to Western Thessaloniki, something that has been pointed out many times in the past.

The aforementioned positions of Mr. Tahiaou, were made in the context of his statements this morning in Katerini, where the upgraded tunnel (Tunnel T4) heading towards Thessaloniki, one kilometer long, was put into traffic. The tunnel is bi-directional, for now, until the part of the descent towards Athens is completed, in the spring of 2025.

Regarding the Flyover, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure was content to say: “you know that there is no longer any work suspension and the project is progressing normally”.
