Panic was caused by a fire that broke out at dawn on Stamouli Stratou Street, behind the 29th Primary School of Patras, in the area of Psachos.

The fire broke out in a densely populated area at around 2:45 am when dry grasses caught fire from an as yet unknown cause. However, it quickly spread to an adjacent plot which had not been cleared.

Residents of the area were thrown from their homes in fear, as they saw the flames threatening their homes.

With buckets and tires they tried to limit the fire to save the cars that were next to the flames, but also to prevent it from spreading to their homes.

A fire engine that arrived at the scene quickly managed to put it out. However, the residents strongly protested that the fire department was delayed “it is unacceptable that the fire department comes after 20-25 minutes after I have called them, given that they are next to us” says an indignant resident of the area to add: “Fortunately the fire had fallen enough air, because otherwise we’d be crying now.”
