Passenger aircraft caused the death dozens of pinks flamingo last night as he approached the Mumbaithe financial capital of India,

At least 36 of the large migratory birds were killed, according to the Hindustan Times newspaper, but the toll could rise, as conservationists estimate.

According to Pawan Sharma of Mumbai-based wildlife group Resqink (RAWW), his organization received several calls last night about deadness flamingo that they were falling from the sky.

“This is the first time that such a large number of flamingos have been hit like this,” Sharma told AFP, saying it was unusual for this to happen in a single incident.

The community was littered with dead bird membersBN Kumar, from the environmental organization NatConnect Foundation, told the Times of India.

“Broken wings, beaks and legs were scattered over a large area,” he added.

The wetlands located along the coast of Mumbai host a large number of pink flamingos from December onwards for a few months.

Mumbai airport recorded over 600 aircraft-bird strikes from January 2018 to October 2023, according to government statistics.

“Epidemic and migratory birds are threatened by flights crossing such important habitats,” said Sharma, “so it is important to assess this incident and work on mitigation measures to avoid such incidents.”
