He was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for three years employee in meat processing industry, because he was stealing for over three years large quantities of meat by his employer, merchandise which is alleged to channeled to a restaurant.
The Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki found him guilty of theft of particularly high value.
According to what his employer testified and based on his calculations, the defendant he stole 150 kilos of filleted meat a week (per month 600 kg). The total amount of stolen merchandise appears to have ranged from 20 tonswith the damage caused exceeding 80,000 euros.
His actions – according to the indictment – were carried out from the end of 2016 to the beginning of 2020 and were revealed when the employer caught him “in practice“, at the entrance of the business, at the point where the trucks depart.
Through his lawyer, the 40-year-old accepted part of his actions. He apologized on the one hand that the stolen merchandise was of poor quality and on the other hand that he intended it for his large family.
