“Business” with self test- monkeymasks and fake labels were set up by two foreigners who were selling them in the market.

As emerged from the police investigation, the two arrested were storing medical masks and covid tests in a house and in a warehouse in the center of Athens, as well as in a warehouse in Aspropyrgos, on which they altered the production and expiration date and channeled them to the market.

From the Athens Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate, at noon on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in the area of ​​Athens, -2- foreigners were arrested, accused of forgery and violation of drug legislation.

In fact, one of those arrested used a transport company based in Aspropyrgos as a storage area, where since July 2023 he had sent more than 4 containers for safekeeping, which contained self-diagnostic tests and medical protective masks, while, in the same area, as of 2021, he was storing boxes containing masks.

In searches carried out, a total of the following were found and seized:

  • 351,000- self-diagnostic covid tests,
  • 2,500,000- medical protective masks,
  • 20,000- stickers-labels of a foreign pharmaceutical industry,
  • 5.7 grams crystal methamphetamine,
  • 2- mobiles,
  • thermal printer,
  • laptop,
  • vehicle and
  • number of boxes containing cards.

According to the National Medicines Agency, the alteration of production and expiry dates, as well as the conditions of storage, transport and handling of the products, make medical masks and self-diagnostic tests dangerous to public health.

The illegal financial benefit they would obtain from the sale of the confiscated tests and protective masks is estimated to exceed the amount of 1,601,000-euro.

Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
