The forestry services of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, in collaboration with the Strategic Importance Contracts Unit of TAIPED, and funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”, are building a protective shield in the burned areas of Evros and the adjacent communities with anti-corrosion-anti-flooding works and reforestation (Recovery & Resilience Fund).

At this time, a program of anti-corrosion protection works is in full progress to retain the soil and limit erosion, as well as reforestation in the areas of responsibility of the forest authorities of Alexandroupoli, with a budget of 6.7 million euros and Soufli, with a budget of 1 million euros.

Crews of specialized craftsmen are proceeding with the realization of the trees burned by the catastrophic fire of 2023 and using them for anti-corrosion projects as well as the enrichment of the soil, while at the same time meeting the needs of the residents of the area.

At the same time, reforestation is also progressing in the areas of Sykorrachis, Mesimvria, “Derveni” and Atarni, while the construction of hydrological flood protection projects in the mountainous riverbeds, both in Evros and in other damaged areas, is also starting.
