Mr. Chrysochoidis reported that complaints of domestic violence are up 60% compared to last year
A thousand arrests were made for domestic violence in May alone, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, told SKAI 100.3
In particular, Mr. Chrysochoidis said that complaints about domestic violence have increased by 60% compared to last year, while he added that now more mouths are opening and women are reporting the abuse they have suffered.
He explained that the legal process has been ensured on the part of the police to protect the women and noted that where there is a need, there are spaces that no one knows except the victims that can be accommodated.
The Minister of Citizen Protection mentioned, among other things, that dozens of panic buttons are installed every week and many complaints are made, stating that this is progress.
Referring to the attack received early yesterday morning by two volunteers who had gone to Parnitha to participate in an action to clean the forest, Mr. Chrysochoidis noted that it will soon be found who committed the crime, and they will be brought to justice.
At the same time, Mr. Chrysochoidis informed that the procedure for the allowance that the frontline police officers will receive, that is, the first responders who manage an incident, is being completed these days. He estimated that the allowance will begin to be given in June.
The Minister of Citizen Protection also announced that the tender for 4,000 cameras that will be worn by police officers is underway.
