Put today’s issues
“The theme of the N. Hellinikan lesson was about the value of travel and its importance in people’s lives. The non-literary texts (The value of “traveling” by H. Hatzidimitriou and “Upper Egypt” by N. Kazantakis) are simple in terms of students’ understanding and help in the argumentation required for topic D .
The speeches are clear in wording and in line with the spirit of the subject bank exercises. The literary text is a poem by K. Palamas, ”the journey”, which, both in terms of language and meaning, has no degree of difficulty.
Topic D, apart from the fact that it concerns a unit that is considered expected (Travel, tourism, mental relaxation of the person) leaves room for the student’s personal position, making it easier for him to avoid standardized positions. according to Mrs. Irini Saranditi from the “Diakrotima Training Group”.
THE ANSWERS OF THE SUBJECTS
- Subject A
The text highlights the importance of travel in human life. Traveling offers people experiences that cultivate them spiritually and mentally as they are a way of mental and physical well-being. With travel, man compensates for the soul-destroying and oppressive everyday life, deriving peace and pleasure. He conquers self-awareness by gaining experiences and memories, relaxes and evolves. Finally, the traveler comes into contact with other cultures, gets educated, opens his spirit and acquires a different way of thinking.
- Topic B1
1b, 2b, 3a, 4a, 5c
- Topic B2
A. a. The author’s intention in the second paragraph of the text is to convince readers of the value of travel in people’s lives in order to include it in their time. This intention of hers is served by organizing her thinking with the method of justification by quoting her arguments (And this, why travel… and finally to be happy).
B. so that : result

or: uncoupling
as well as: addition
in conclusion: conclusion
- Topic B3
The experiential nature of the text is highlighted by the following characteristics. A) first person singular (I go, I think), which gives a personal and subjective tone to the narrative. B) narration of personal experiences and description of images he saw (We arrived at Thebes), thus illuminating his personal thoughts and feelings. C) 1st person plural that captures the collective experience of the narrator with the rest of his fellow travelers (We are entering, close to us).
- Topic C
The poetic subject wishes to travel in order to escape from the emotional impasse he experiences. In particular, speaking in the first person singular (to feel) and in a confessional mood, he reveals his emotional world. The simile (like a noose around the neck) captures the feeling of suffocation, as grief chokes him like a noose. He wishes for an endless journey without any social contact so that he does not feel or think of anything that can hurt or betray him (soul not to be found.. and mute). With the use of pessimistic images and disjointed shape (vast wilderness, closed houses, extinguished fireplaces…) he reveals his emotional charge and senses his desire for redemption from the thwarting of his dreams. He hopes to be in a place away from the person who hurt him to whom he addresses in the second person and in the future tense (I will not have … from you to perish) expressing his need to move away from the source of his frustration.
The emotional state of the poetic subject forces an escape from the reality he experiences. The solution he thinks of is a trip away from everyone and everything. If I were in his position I would probably choose to travel to forget and spend time with myself. However, I know that the solution to problems does not lie in running away, so after taking time, I would face the situation head on.
In the personal opinion each student can formulate his own position with sufficient documentation.
Additional textual indicators:
- Transportation: I’m sick of it
- Repeat: to pull, to pull
- Punctuation: get lost!
