A 57 years old from Bulgariaimpersonating him orthopedics of Hatzikosta Hospitaltried to deceive a 66-year-old man in Ioannina and extort money from him to supposedly operate on his child!

This person was arrested by her police officers Ioannina Security Sub-Directorate and is charged with participation in a criminal organization and fraud – committed and attempted – respectively.

In particular, the investigation of the case began after a number of complaints (mainly elderly) citizens from Friday morning in Janinathat they received surprise phone calls from strangers, who pretended to be doctors from a city hospital and asked for money for their child to undergo an emergency surgery, due to a car accident he had suffered.

In fact, with the aim of causing even greater emotional stress and psychological pressure, members of the organization pretended to be – as the case may be – their daughter or son, begging for help, while, as it turned out, the arrested person had the role of “collector”, who would he received the money in person, in case any of the citizens were convinced of their criminal plan.

Following this, a special team was set up by the Ioannina Security Sub-Directorate, which managed to locate the foreigner and intervene when he was receiving a paper bag with 2,000 euros from a citizen who had been defrauded in the above manner, which were then returned to him.

In addition, it was established that the arrested person had entered the country the day before yesterday (6-6-20024) with a privately owned car, which was confiscated, as was the sum of 600 euros and 3 mobile phones, which were found in his possession.

The arrested person was taken to the Prosecutor’s Office of Primary Ioannina.
