The mercury will climb to 42 degrees (in the shade) on Wednesday and Thursday
Today on the 4th, an inter-ministerial meeting will be held at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection on “Preparation for the coming heat wave”, then the emergency bulletin for very high temperatures in the next few days, issued by the Ministry of Health.
The highest temperatures will occur in the interior of mainland Greece, mainly in the central and southern areas, in areas that are not affected by the sea breeze.
Specifically:
1. On Tuesday (11-6-2024) high temperatures will prevail mainly in the central and southern continental regions. The maximum value of the temperature will reach the eastern Sterea, Thessaly and the eastern Peloponnese 39 to 40 and locally 41 Celsius degrees.
2. On Wednesday (12-6-2024) and Thursday (13-6-2024) the temperatures will peak both in terms of their maximum, but also in terms of their minimum values.
a. In the northern continental regions, the maximum value of the temperature will reach 38 to 39 degrees and in central Macedonia locally 40 degrees Celsius, while its minimum values ​​will range around 25 to 27 degrees Celsius.
b. In western Sterea and the western Peloponnese the maximum temperature will reach 38 to 40 degrees and in Thessaly 41 to 42 degrees Celsius with minimum values ​​around 26 to 28 degrees Celsius.
c. In eastern Sterea and the eastern Peloponnese, 41 to 42 degrees Celsius and possibly 43 degrees in places, while its minimum values ​​will range from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
d. In the island country the maximum temperature value will reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, in the Ionian islands, the islands of the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese 38 to 39 degrees, while locally in the interior of Crete it is likely to reach 40 with 42 degrees Celsius. Its minimum values ​​will range from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
e. In Attica the maximum temperatures will reach 40 to 41 degrees inside and possibly 42 degrees Celsius on Thursdaywhile in coastal areas it will be 3 to 5 degrees lower.
3. On Friday (14-6-2024) the temperature will drop in the west, central and north, but in the rest of the regions it will be maintained at very high levels, while from the afternoon hours a change in weather is expected in northern Greece with storms accompanied by strong winds.
It is noted that the Weekend across the country, the temperature will drop by 6 to 8 degrees and will return to normal levels for the season. At the same time, strong northerly winds will prevail.

Protection instructions for citizens
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection, has informed the competent government agencies involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness, in order to face directly the effects of the prevalence of high temperatures.
At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection recommends that citizens be especially careful, taking measures to protect themselves from risks arising from the prevalence of high temperatures.
Especially people who belong to vulnerable groups should be especially careful in the coming days to avoid health problems, such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, which may be caused by the high temperatures that will prevail.
In particular, according to the guidelines for self-protection against high temperatures, citizens are advised to:
• Stay in cool and shady places away from overcrowding, use air conditioners or fans and avoid heavy physical work in places with high temperature, apnea and high humidity.
• Avoid sunbathing, as well as walking or running under the sun and wear a hat and sunglasses and light-colored clothing made of fabric that allows the skin to ventilate and facilitates the evaporation of sweat, avoiding synthetic fabrics.
• Consume light meals with fruits and vegetables, limiting fats and the amount of food.
• Drink plenty of water and fruit juices, avoiding alcoholic beverages.
Special care is recommended for babies and young children, as well as the elderly and those with chronic diseases to protect them from high temperatures
