Relatives and friends will say their last goodbye today to 11-year-old Vasiliki from Ilia, who was murdered by the hands of her uncle in Ilia. The funeral will be held at 18:00 at the Holy Church of Agios Athanasios Myrtias.

The 37-year-old defendant was given a deadline to apologize on Friday, while his transfer to the Tower Courthouse yesterday was not possible after an angry crowd had gathered outside and tried to lynch him. For this reason, he was taken to the police headquarters where the prosecutor of Protodiki Ilia charged him with manslaughter, attempted rape of a minor, abduction of a minor, armed robbery and possession of a firearm.

As it emerged from forensic examination of the body of the child, Vasiliki received blows with the screwdriver, in the heart and spleen, however no evidence of sexual abuse was found.

The 37-year-old confessed to the authorities that he tried to rape the little girl in his car, in the fields, after first taking her for a walk. When the 11-year-old refused, he killed her so she wouldn’t reveal her uncle’s sick intentions to her parents.

According to police sources, on the fateful night – when the girl refused the accused sexual intercourse – he threw her to the ground and with a screwdriver he had in the car, killed her by inflicting multiple blows on her back, ribs and neck.

He then dragged the body for a distance of about 45 meters and hid it next to a drainage ditch, covering it with dry grasses.

From the first moment, the police officers of the Tower Security estimated that the motives were sexual, as he had been arrested by the same service 7 years ago, in 2017, for the rape of a 14-year-old girl who was the first cousin of the father of the 11-year-old Vasiliki, in the same area already.
