From Naoussa Security Department fraud against an 84-year-old woman that took place last month in Naoussa Imathia was discovered and a case was filed against a 53-year-old man, whose details have been identified.

In particular, at noon May 10, 2024 his accomplice called the elderly woman, pretending to be a doctor, and claimed that her daughter had been injured. He asked for money to allegedly undergo immediate surgery.

In this way, they managed to extract the sum of 15,000 euros from her, which was received by the aforementioned man.

The investigation by the police continues both for the identification of the details of his unknown accomplices, as well as for their possible participation in other similar criminal acts.

The file that was created will be submitted to the Veria District Attorney.

The General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia, with the aim of avoiding deception of unsuspecting citizens by astute people, recommends:

  • Do not trust strangers, who try to convince you to give them money over the phone, due to an urgent need of a relative or friend of yours.
  • Do not be convinced if the perpetrators give you to talk on the phone with an alleged relative of yours.
  • Do not take any action without first contacting the specific person by phone to confirm.
  • Use another phone device to contact your loved one, as the perpetrators may still be on the ‘line’.
  • Do not accept any meeting – appointment with strangers and declare that you are not going to give money.
  • Always have emergency phone numbers available (Police, Fire, hospitals, relatives, etc.).
  • Always inform the Police, even in the event of an attempted fraud against you.
