The fire is dangerous and fast-spreading, fire officials say – Strong winds are blowing in the area with gusts of up to 100 km per hour – Firefighting forces are constantly increasing – Roads are closed
In full progress is the large fire that broke out shortly before 15.00, in a forest area in Katsimidi of Parnitha, near a tavern.
According to the official information from the Fire Department, strong ground forces are fighting the flames and will be further reinforced with 100 firefighters and 30 vehicles from Thessaly, Epirus and Central Macedonia. From the air, 12 aerial vehicles, 4 aircraft and 8 helicopters operate.
Wind gusts exceed 100 km per hour
In the area of the fire in Parnitha, the speed of the winds reaches 50 kilometers, with gusts exceeding 100 kilometers per hour. These conditions and the fact that there are high voltage pylons in the area make it difficult for aerial vehicles to operate. For this reason they mainly operate helicopters.
Assistance in the extinguishing work is provided by strong forces, from volunteer firefighters, a number of volunteer firefighting vehicles as well as water tankers and work machines of the Region of Attica and of the General Staff of National Defense.
