Thessaloniki: 51-year-old sexually abused his niece – The case is shocking

by

A 51-year-old man was sentenced to a total of 26 years in prison (with an estimated 20) on charges of sexually abusing his wife’s minor niece for six years. The Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki unanimously found him guilty of rape, abuse of a minor and sexual acts, all at the expense of a minor and continuously, without recognizing any mitigation. After his conviction, the accused returned to prison.

The nightmare that the 17-year-old – today – sufferer lived is described in the multi-page indictment, revealing shocking details about what she was experiencing. According to court documents, the minor grew up with her grandparents, and on weekends visited the home of her aunt and her accused uncle. During her stay there, the 51-year-old defendant allegedly sexually abused her, at the age of just 9 years old.

Already, since then, according to the case file, there were suspicions of her abuse, as doctors, after examining the minor, diagnosed a sexually transmitted disease. This fact provoked a criminal investigation, with a previous prosecutor’s order and in this context, persons from the environment in which he lived testified. Although the minor confessed to her grandmother what she was going through, the elderly woman allegedly pressured her psychologically not to mention the slightest thing, in order to protect the family environment.

Indeed, the minor did not file anything aggravating and under these circumstances the case was filed. She then moved to the defendant’s house for permanent residence, because the grandmother – as it was filed – was tired and had to take care of her elderly husband. “Instead of protecting her purity and childlike innocence, she sends her north to her family, to live there,” the prosecutor of the Criminal Court commented in her speech.

Living until the age of 15 under the same roof as the accused, the minor decided to “escape” and under the pretext of visiting relatives in Sweden, she settles there permanently. Having already shared with a friend in Greece her intention to reveal “when she grows up some strange things”, she wrote an email from Sweden and sent it to the Thessaloniki Department for the Protection of Minors, describing the sexual abuse suffered by her uncle of.

A new investigation was followed by the Police, with her traveling to Thessaloniki and being examined by a special expert. When the prosecuting authorities summoned the 51-year-old to testify, his traces were lost, while he refused to disclose the address of his residence.

He eventually becomes an accused and is referred to trial, where he apologized and denied any connection with the acts attributed to him by the indictment, characterizing as false the allegations of his minor niece. The testimonies of most of the relatives of the victim moved in the same direction, who, examined by the court, took the side of the accused, attributing to lies what was reported, without finding a good conversation about the minor.

“He is clearly not lying, he has clearly been sexually abused,” the district attorney said in a statement, citing psychiatric expertise and the findings of social workers, who described the minor as mature, intelligent, confident and able to defend herself. referring to her relatives, she noted that “they did not protect her, they did not say what a good child she is, except that she is lying”.
