The Greeks drive… hybrids. The hybrid models know a great increase to the preferences of Greek drivers. Almost one in two cars (45.6%) registered in June in our country had a hybrid system, recording an increase of 15.2% compared to sales recorded in June 2023.

The main reason for the shift of Greek consumers to hybrid cars, according to market executives, is the low fuel consumption achieved by hybrid cars, low emissions, low road taxes and environmental awareness.

All this happens when electrification in Greece despite the increase in its rates still has a long way to go to resolve many issues which have to do with the charging infrastructure, the purchase price of an electric car and its range. However, electric models in terms of sales remained stable for another month recording a sales percentage of 9.5%. For another month, diesel models recorded a decline, occupying a total percentage of 7.3%, recording a decrease of 6.2% compared to the corresponding month last year.

A drop in sales compared to last year was recorded by gasoline models (-6.9%) occupying a total of 36.9% of all sales. Sales of cars with natural gas as their main fuel (-0.4%) and LPG (-1.3%) also fell.

Regarding the sales of the first half of the cars they have hybrid systems occupied a total of 39.3%, gasoline cars collected a percentage of 40.7%, diesel cars had 9.2% in the first half, electric cars collected a percentage of 9.5% to remain in low percentages of cars with a liquid gas system (1.4%) and with almost zero sales of cars with natural gas.

It is worth noting that in the European Union the category of hybrid models occupies 29.3%, of electric cars is at 19.2% to be followed by petrol models with 35.5%, diesel models with 12.9% and cars powered by natural gas and LPG with 3.2%.

Finally, the B category continues to be the favorite of the Greeksn. It gathers 58.1% of all sales with SUVs occupying 34.3%. The next most popular category is C which gathered 21% (SUV 16.3%) followed by A category with a total market share of 14.3%.
