The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, warns of a high risk of fire due to heat and strong winds.
His statement in detail:
“This week will be extremely difficult: Drought, heat up to 42 degrees and cold weather up to 7 Beaufort they compose a dangerous cocktail for the event and above all the dramatic spread of even the smallest fire.
Tomorrow Tuesday, Attica, Boeotia, Evia, Argolis, Ilia, Lesvos, Chios and Psara, Crete, as well as areas in Corinth, Achaia, Laconia, Fthiotida and Xanthi will be on scale 4 of the fire danger map. In the very high risk index are also Rodopi and Evros where, at this moment, strong ground forces and 11 aerial vehicles are facing a very difficult fire in the Kyriaki area. It is remarkable that almost every day we have at least one dangerous fire in Evros.
A coordination meeting of all relevant ministries, agencies and security forces is being convened today with the participation of the Risk Assessment Committee.
Bad things can happen in a matter of minutes. It is also the duty of citizens to show due empathy, attention and responsibility».
