Battle of flames continues with better picture – Firefighter volunteered to fight off-duty – Three more firefighters were slightly injured Wednesday afternoon
Firefighters battle the flames all night long in Sofiko Corinthia with the fire that broke out on Wednesday morning to be in progress presenting however better picture.
In battle they venture over 140 firefighters 6 forestry teams and 37 vehicles. They are also supported by project machinery from GEETHA and OTA, as well as volunteers. After sunset, the aerial means stopped operating and the ground forces continued the battle.
The fire broke out around 11:42 on Wednesday and developed in a dense forest area, next to the Epidaurus – Corinth highway.
Shortly after 12 noon a message from 112 rang to citizens in the area to remain on alert.
Firefighter suffers heart attack – Three more with burns
During the extinguishing operation, a firefighter originally from Sofiko Corinthia, together with his colleagues, volunteered to put out the fire, as he was not on duty. However, he suffered a heart attack and is being intubated at Nice State Hospital.
Also, three more firefighters were slightly injured. The firefighters have burns and were immediately taken to the Corinth hospital.
Regarding the fire, a coordination meeting was held at the Ministry of Climatic Crete and Civil Protection, on Wednesday afternoon under the minister Vasilis Kikilia. The meeting was attended by, among other co-competent ministries, officers of the Fire Brigade, ELAS and the Army, representatives of the local government and all the agencies involved.
