Holding blankets in their hands, bags of food, children’s clothes, medicines, cans of olive oil, anything that can help the people of Ukraine, dozens of Thessalonians are responding to the call of the Ukrainian consulate to collect humanitarian aid at the Vla Monastery.
“People do and give what they can, whether they are Greeks, Ukrainians or Russians,” Natalia, who volunteers to help classify and package aid, told APE-MPE. “It is touching,” he continues, “that many people come to give something and cry, wanting to help in any way they can.” Like a woman who came in with a bag of medicine, saying how she brought what she had to her home pharmacy, or an elderly woman who picked up her grandchildren’s clothes, which they no longer wear, and carefully folded and washed them for the children. of Ukraine.
However, according to the volunteers, who are engaged in collecting things, they do not need other clothes anymore. What they lack is long-lasting food, powdered milk and diapers for babies and medicines.
The offices of Vlatada Monastery will be open daily for the collection of humanitarian aid from 10 in the morning until 13:00 and from 6 in the afternoon until 20:00.
“Caravan” of humanitarian aid for Ukraine from the region of Central Macedonia and municipalities
Medicines and medical supplies for the war zones of Ukraine are also collected by the Region of Central Macedonia, by decision of the governor, Apostolos Tzitzikostas.
Citizens wishing to help can donate medicines and medical supplies gathered in the two buildings of the Region of Central Macedonia (October 26, 64 and Vas. Olgas 198) from Wednesday, March 2 until Thursday, March 3, from 09:00 until 14:30. The material will be sent in cooperation with the Consulate of Ukraine in Thessaloniki.
Private entities, which can offer specialized medical equipment, such as surgical tables, respirators, ultrasound machines and surgical beds, as well as electricity generators, can contact the office of the Deputy Regional Minister for Health and Social Solidarity, Melier.
On the side of the Ukrainian people stands the municipality of Kalamaria, which begins the collection of humanitarian aid daily from 07:00 to 15:00 at the municipal pharmacy at 18 Papanikola Street, in the building of the Deputy Mayor for Social Policy, on the second floor.
It is reminded that the collection of humanitarian aid has started and the municipality of Thessaloniki and the basic necessities are collected in the foyer of the town hall.
