Two new cases plague in sheep and goats in its area Thessaly detected by the controls carried out by the competent services.

The two new cases were detected in Damasi and Sykouriowhile checks continue at the units in the area.

According to information from the Region of Thessaly, the checks will be completed on Friday, July 26, with the samples being sent daily to a laboratory in Athens. If a case is detected, the animals will be killed and the particular unit will be placed under surveillance.

More than 2,000 lambs have already been killed in her area Thessaly.

At the same time, given the occurrence of confirmed cases of plague in farms in the prefectures of Trikala and Larissa and to avoid the transmission of the disease, but also for the effort to protect livestock, Mr. Kouretas signed a decision, which provides for the prohibition – for any reason – the movement of goats, sheep and lambs throughout the Region of Thessaly, until the completion of the epidemiological investigation of the disease and the issuance of a new decision.

It is also prohibited to slaughter goats, sheep and lambs in the slaughterhouses of Region of Thessaly until Friday, July 26.

The immediate measures that have been taken are the creation of a surveillance zone of up to 10 kilometers and the prohibition of the movement of sheep and goats. The distribution of milk, however, continues normally with high pasteurization, while the results of the controls are awaited with particular interest.
