Checks continue continuously in the protection and surveillance zones to deal with the plague of small ruminants, as the Minister of Rural Development and Food stated in a post on social media, Kostas Tsiaras.

He thanked the 100 vets which carry out all controls to deal with zoonotic disease, saying among other things: “With your own strength, dedication and the kind cooperation between the relevant agencies and the breeders, we are confident that we will overcome this test.”

It is noted that on the field there are veterinarians from the HYPAAT, OPEKEPE, EFET, ELGO, ELGA, the University of Thessaly and the AUTH, the veterinary services of the Region of Thessaly and other Regions, as well as the Greek Army, while an important project also the Greek Police.

According to the Region of Thessaly-YPAAT, today the checks were completed in the first protection zone in Domeniko Elassonas and in total 59 units, 4 positives were found with outbreaks.

Clinical controls in the protection zone of 3km in the Regional Units of Trikala and Larissa have been completed.

As of today, more than 100 veterinarians and veterinary employees are in the field, with 34 crews and headed by YPAAT chief Giorgos Stratakos, conducting checks.

Finally, according to estimates, by Friday the checks will be completed in both surveillance zones (of 10 km). In total, around 125,000 animals will have been checked in both Regional Units (14,000 in Trikala PE and over 110,000 in Larisa PE).
