1821: The Souliotes, besieged by Omer Vryonis, leave Souli for good.

1822: The destruction of Dramali’s army is completed at Agionori Argolida by the men of Theodoros Kolokotronis, Dimitrios Ypsilantis, Papaflessas and Nikitaras.

1914: Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia. Beginning of the First World War.

1920: Sultan Mehmet VI signs the Treaty of Sèvres, which puts the definitive “tombstone” on the Ottoman Empire. Greece gains territories and becomes “the country of two continents and five seas”, according to Eleftherios Venizelos. (August 10 with the new calendar)

1948: One day before the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, races are organized for veteran athletes – victims of the Second World War, on the initiative of Sir Ludwig Guttmann. These games are the prelude to the Paralympic Games, which will be organized for the first time in 1960 in Rome.

1998: The Human Rights Court orders Turkey to pay compensation to Greek Cypriot Titina Loizidou for her confiscated property in the Occupied Territories.
