A reversal occurred with the court decision on the murder of journalist Giorgos Karaivaz, as the Mixed Jury Court of Athens that tried the case, consisting of both judges and a majority of jurors, acquitted the two defendants who had sat in the dock as natural perpetrators of the murder.

The court decision taken by large majorities (5-2 and 6-1) acquitted the two brothers who had been accused of killing the unfortunate journalist, as it was decided that the evidence for the murder was not sufficient.

It should be noted here that prosecutor at trial recommended that both defendants be found guilty for the murder, rejecting their claims that the clues that led to their conviction were devilish coincidences.

Also, it should be noted that the moral perpetrators have not been identified for the brutal murder, while the case has also concerned the European level as it is also mentioned in the report of the European Parliament on the rule of law, while the prosecutor who suggested the guilt of both, had argued that it was not a simple homicide but a murder linked to organized crime, while he attributed the motive of the journalist’s murder to the possibility of revelations by him.

In particular, in the decision by a vote of 5 to two, one of the two brothers was found not guilty, while the second was also found not guilty by a vote of 6 to one.
