A warning about a possible attempt to hit a target of Israeli interest in Greece is said to have been sent by foreign security services, according to the Daily.

National Intelligence Service and Anti-terrorist they are on the alert for such a possibility, after the latest developments, and in particular the assassination of the leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniya, on Iranian soil.

The estimates of Greek and foreign officials converge on the possibility that there will be in the next period attempt to retaliate by attacking an Israeli target not on Israeli soil, but in a third country. For some foreign services, Greece is included among the candidate countries, without, however, as reported by competent sources, there is clear information about an attack against a specific target or on a specific date.

In the period 2023-2024, furthermore, plans and attempts to attack targets of Israeli interest in Athens were recorded twice. The first of these was in March 2023, when Anti-Terrorism in collaboration with the EYP and the Israeli Mossad arrested two people, Pakistani nationals, accused of planning to attack the Jewish synagogue in Monastiraki.

The second case was recorded in May and June 2024 with low-intensity arson attacks against an Israeli hotel in Monastiraki, but also the synagogue in the same area. The perpetrators were tracked down by videos and evidence found at the scene of the attack by the Anti-Terrorism Department.

On Wednesday it became known that in Thessaloniki, emergency security measures are taken in places that might be considered targets, such as the city’s Jewish museum and school.
